Tucked away on Rice lane in Walton is a little-known catering agency which, since its launch in 2017 has been making waves throughout Liverpool, the UK, and the lives of its staff.
StedyChefs Limited is a recruitment agency which specialises in catering and hospitality staff.
Boasting an impressive team of professionally trained head chefs, kitchen porters, waiters/waitresses, bartenders and baristas, the agency keeps itself busy throughout the year catering to weddings, work parties, private events, festivals and more.
The teams full complement of skills has taken them to RHS Malvern, Fusion Festival and even Britain’s Got Talent!
The ethos of StedyChefs goes deeper than making sure your guests go home talking about the canapes. The agency is the brainchild of Stephen Bygrave and Sean Ellis, combining over 30 years of catering experience.
Starting out as a cookery school, the agency teaches those with learning disabilities to learn skills in cooking, commercial food hygiene standards, coffee and drink making and all aspects of hospitality service.
Fully trained staff can be hired through the agency to provide catering services to a plethora of events both private and public. Any skill level is accepted, and if team members just want to learn skills to cook at home, there are courses for that too.
The importance of the agency goes far beyond helping people to learn to cook. A report by the Caroline Walker Trust said that:
“Many people with learning disabilities wish to acquire new skills or improve existing skills. This may be to enhance employment prospects, to allow them to lead more independent lives or because they enjoy learning purely for its own sake.
“Opportunities to learn also provide people with new experiences and the chance to meet new people and make new friends.”
The work that StedyChefs do is imperative to the lives of its staff and their families, to help them to eat a healthy diet, and encourage them to become more independent.
Expanding the futures of people who may be more dependent with is something that we at Counterline fully support. We’ve enjoyed visiting StedyChefs to see the progress of its staff, as well as to sample their famous pies!
During our last visit we supplied the staff with new chefs’ whites to protect them while hard at work in the kitchen.
StedyChefs’ brand new facility at Rice Lane has allowed for disabled access, and, together with larger facilities, has expanded the opportunities of the business, and the future of its hard-working team.
