Case Study: Historic Chester Railway Station

Working together with our distribution partner, Ebor Catering Systems, Counterline supplied our latest Self-Help and Served Refrigerated Counter to the historic railway station at Chester. An ideal solution for this newly refurbished “Refresh” quick service outlet.

Talk to us about a project

Chester Station was constructed by Thomas Brassey, known as the “Greatest Railway Builder in the World”. Opening in 1848, its Italianate facade of 1050 feet formed the longest station building in England.

At the time of his death in 1870, Brassey had built one third of the UK’s railways and amazingly 1 in 20 miles of the world’s railway networks.

It was a pleasure for the Counterline team to be supplying equipment for a new project in such a historic location.

In order to maintain its reputation for outstanding service and hospitality, Counterline identified the need to optimise its refrigeration solutions. The company aimed to achieve several objectives:

  1. Maximise visible offerings to customers to enhance the overall shopping experience.
  2. Support both self-service and served offerings to cater to diverse customer preferences.
  3. Ensure quick service times while fostering customer interaction.

Self Help & Served Refrigerated Counters

Working through our distributor Ebor Catering Systems, we supplied the latest product in Counterline’s range, the dual purpose self-help and served refrigerated counter.

Railway stations are often very busy locations with large numbers of people arriving and departing at specific times and often with little time to spare. This new design of refrigerated counter allows customers with time to browse to be served by the outlet’s staff or for the client to select their own items and be served very quickly.

To address these challenges, the client collaborated with the Counterline team to develop a comprehensive solution. The key component of this solution was the implementation of the Vision Aire range of mobile display cases, carefully selected for their unique features and adaptability. Here’s how the solution addressed each challenge:

  1. Maximising Visible Offerings: The Vision Aire range was chosen for its ability to showcase the client’s products prominently. With a design reminiscent of jewelry display cases, these units provided an elegant and visually appealing platform for presenting a wide range of offerings, from beverages to pastries and merchandise.
  2. Supporting Self-Service and Served Offerings: The versatility of the Vision Aire range allowed the client to seamlessly integrate both self-service and served offerings within its stores. By strategically placing these mobile display cases throughout the venue, customers could easily access grab-and-go items while still having the option for personalised service from the client’s staff.
  3. Ensuring Quick Service Times and Customer Interaction: Despite the emphasis on efficiency, the client prioritised maintaining meaningful interactions with customers. The Vision Aire range facilitated quick service times by enabling staff to access and replenish products efficiently. Moreover, the design of the display cases encouraged customer engagement, as they could browse the offerings and interact with staff to learn more about their products and brand.

The client’s partnership with Counterline and the strategic implementation of the Vision Aire range exemplifies their commitment to innovation and customer satisfaction. By recognising need for a jewellery display case profile and flexibility for a seamless design finish. This allows them to successfully differentiated itself in a competitive market, setting a new standard for excellence in the industry.
