Case Study: Centra Stores

Part of the Musgrave brand estate, Centra is Northern Ireland’s leading convenience retail group which prides itself on bright and accessible stores.

With three retail stores in Omagh, owner Naill McCullough wanted to roll out a new deli space in one of these Omagh stores, which would offer breakfast, lunch and dinner. This new deli counter would maintain the company’s commitment to traditional values of good fresh food and excellent services.

Counterline’s challenge

We like a challenge at Counterline, and we’re no strangers to complex requirements.

Centra’s requirements were no different:

  • A bright, modern space, aesthetically pleasing and enticing.
  • Enhanced visibility for the new food offering, with equipment able to support the new and varied menus.
  • Increased capacity to display this new offering, despite spatial challenges.

Meeting the challenge

To ensure that this new space achieved its primary goal of being bright, modern and enticing, Counterline considered several bespoke solutions.

A deli counter that catered for breakfast, lunch and dinner would require a solution that would support and promote this varied menu, keeping food fresh, and maintaining food temperature.

Our ranges are wide and varied, but after collaborating closely with our partners, one range, in particular, stood out.

Enter the Presentation Range.

The benefits

Centra required both heated and chilled deli counters to cater to the different food on display.

The gentle flow of convected air within the chilled counters ensures chilled food is kept at safe, regulated temperatures. Considering space was a premium at the Omagh store, the built-in rear shelf on the Presentation Range allows for quick food preparation in a confined area.

The heated display units also offer controlled, regulated temperatures and come in a variety of designs; all distinctly art deco, enhancing the food it’s showcasing.

With its seamless UV bonded glass and LED illumination, this range perfectly matched Niall’s brief for a space which was bright, modern and accessible.

The perfect solution

Working closely with JD Catering, an adaptation of Counterline’s best selling Manhattan Range was chosen for this project.

Bringing a touch of elegance and class the Presentation Range is wonderfully art deco and transforms any food space with its brightly polished stainless steel and 10mm polished edges of flat glass.

Its simplicity in design takes nothing away from the food it presents but instead adds a touch of distinction.

Crucially, this solution delivered on the most challenging specification; increasing capacity within a restricted space.

The result

Counterline’s Presentation Range has produced a sophisticated deli area, that’s accessible and utilises the premium space perfectly. With the innovative rear prep shelves on both the chilled and heated units, Niall and his team can now use this area for food preparation. What would typically be redundant space, is now a functional area.

Saving space, presenting this new food offering in a manner that entices customers has been so successful, Niall now plans to replicate this deli in his other two Omagh Centra Store sites.
