Running A Successful School Cafeteria

27/05/2021Guy ParkerNews

Schools, colleges and universities are getting back to some normality, and it’s time staff in the education sector considered making any improvements to their daily processes at meal times to keep things as swift and enjoyable as possible, not just for diners, but for staff members too.

Your school cafeteria should be treated just like any other foodservice establishment. The only difference is that you’re serving students and staff who will be returning each day, expecting the same high standard of service. A successful school cafeteria isn’t just getting through each service, but it’s ensuring your diners get the best quality experience and food options time and time again.

To keep your school cafeteria running smoothly and to help keep your diners happy, there are a number of things to keep in mind, from varying your menu options to keeping your displays attractive and eye-catching. Here at Counterline, we know exactly what makes a great display and just how to keep those diners happy!

How to run a successful cafeteria

Spruce up your menu options

Keeping menus fresh and varied throughout each day will ensure diners are always kept satisfied. It’s common knowledge that children can be fussy eaters, no matter their age, so understanding which items are popular will help you create a solid, successful menu. Don’t be afraid to experiment with new items and flavours, but always ensure you have some of those old favourites on standby.

Market your offering

Turn those heads in between lessons by marketing the day’s or week’s food offerings. From eye-catching posters to attractive menus and food names, you’re sure to grab the attention of your diners and perhaps encourage them to try something new. Make sure you tell students and staff about menu changes and try to get their feedback!

Presentation is key

You’ll probably already know just how important presentation is in keeping your food items attractive and desirable to your diners. Keep your displays looking fresh, clean and well-maintained, as well as having colourful menu boards and lighting to really capture all food and drink options in their best light.

Counterline is the UK leader in custom counters and display units, and we’ve already helped schools, colleges and universities to create a cafeteria space to be proud of. If we can help you in any way, get in touch and let’s have a chat!

Keep food safety a priority

It’s important to not only keep dining options attractive to students and staff, but it’s even more important to maintain high standards of food safety at all times. Ensure you’re following all health and food safety guidelines and that your team of staff are well aware of what is expected of them for each and every service, from cooking and serving, to cleaning and disinfecting.

See some of our work

In the education sector, we understand that healthy balanced eating should be promoted in the cafeteria. Cutting down on the junk food can make for a calmer more productive school. We also know that where there are many young people, safety around hot catering equipment is of the highest importance.

We’ve worked with many educational establishments and you can see our quality work here. We’re extremely proud of each and every one of these projects!

Allow Counterline to transform your cafeteria

Our professional and supportive team can find a winning solution for all educational establishment needs with our products featuring in many UK schools, colleges and universities.

If we can be of any assistance or you’d like more information about what we can do for you, get in touch with the Counterline team on 0151 548 2211 or email us at enquiries@counterline.co.uk.
