Hot Holding Display, hot display case, countertop hot food displays

Rising demands for hot holding displays

20/12/2022Guy ParkerNews

With the recent cold snap, where temperatures have reached unusually low levels, hot choices for breakfasts, lunches and snacks increase, both domestically in the home and commercially.

In a commercial setting, where hot food needs to be displayed to the consumer, the hot holding display unit must have multiple functions. It needs to present the food in an attractive as well as accessible way, but it must also maintain the quality of hot food. Achieving all these aspects is no mean feat. Counterline are the go-to manufacturer of food and drink display units for the catering, hospitality and food retail sectors.

Turning up the heat

Hot holding displays are one of our specialities. We take all factors into consideration when designing and manufacturing these units. Whilst ensuring pre-made hot sandwiches, pastries, soups and other hot food offerings are presented clearly and attractively, our expert designers understand grab-and-go produce are a convenience items that must be easily accessible. We therefore take into account details such as shelve height and depth to optimally display food and drinks on-the-go.

Perhaps crucially, we also appreciate food safety and hygiene regulations when it comes to the environment and temperatures food should safely be stored and served at. We create our units using the latest technology to meet these guidelines, as well as our knowledge of consumer trends.

Consumer trends

The season, and more so the actual weather and outside temperature, often dictates consumer grab-and-go demand. Typically, as the temperature drops, the desire for hot produce rises. Hot sandwiches, pies, sausage rolls, and soups take up the shelves of hot holding displays in petrol and convenience stores, service stations, cafes, and other larger foodservice establishments.

Consumers still expect high standards when it comes to the quality of grab-and-go food and drink. Sub-standard produce that hasn’t been retained it freshness and taste will no longer be tolerated by the modern consumers. With so much variety on offer it is essential operators and retailers purchase equipment that will effectively maintain the condition of the food they are selling.

Cleaning and maintenance

The upkeep of any commercial catering equipment is vital the smooth running of any operation. Whilst daily in-house cleaning will comply with standard operating procedure, a regular cleaning and maintenance programme will prevent any major issues arising with your hot holding display unit.

Our service engineers are qualified, experienced professionals who can identify and deal with any issue with your hot holding display unit. From troubleshooting to repair with a good dose of spares and parts readily available, we have seen and dealt with it all. When it comes to emergency breakdowns, our engineers can have your equipment back up and running within 48 hours of your call.

Visibility

Ensuring the foods you offer are displayed attractively is just one part of the product visibility story. Foods must also be arranged so labels and ingredients are clearly visible, making the purchasing journey for the consumer swift and concise.

Many of our units have clear toughened glass sides and hand guards, allowing full visibility and making it even easier for customers to make their choice.

Whilst life has returned to relative normality following the COVID-19 pandemic, some changes and trends introduced during the re-opening of the hospitality sector have remained. We introduced retractable glass units during this time to allow the operator to seamlessly switch from self-service to assisted service. It was highlighted by Counterline’s global partners as an innovation that will support operators as they negotiate their businesses through the pandemic, and it has continued to be a popular solution for many.
